Police have reportedly detained a suspect over the murder of an employee from a recently opened hotel in Manaung Township, Arakan State.
The victim was identified as Maung Min Htet Wai, a 21-year-old man working as a chef in Manaung Township’s Kaei Beach hotel zone.
He was found dead on February 5 in a reservoir within the designated hotel zone on Manaung Island, two days after he went missing.
An official from the Manaung Township police station said that a hotel employee suspected of being involved in the murder has been arrested and is being held on remand.
“An employee working with the deceased was arrested yesterday and is being held for questioning. At the moment, I cannot tell you about the rest of the case,” the police official added.
U Kyaw Than, an uncle of Maung Min Htet Wai, said the death of his nephew was a murder, adding that he wanted the perpetrator to be brought to justice.
“It is now known that the police are questioning a suspect. We want the relevant authorities to investigate this case as soon as possible,” he added.
The 21-year-old’s body was found with two wounds on his neck, according to family members, who have opened a case under Section 302 of the Penal Code, covering murder, at the Manaung Township police station.
According to the Manaung Township police station, the autopsy in the case has not yet been received.
